It was in C&W that I got my intro to dancing over 20 years ago. The dance that I was taught as being "Country Swing" is a 4 count pattern similar to that of Hustle, but done to same tempo as that done in single time swing. I've known this dance as the Rodeo Swing, but have not done it in recent years.

What I'm wondering now if this is indeed the definitive C&W swing dance or if Country Swing refers to any swing dancing done to C&W music. I'm wondering since ECS, Single Time and WCS are also taught in C&W settings here.

Patterns - Sweetheart, Pretzel and Window moves; are these particular to C&W? This is where I learned them and I have used these when I've danced swing in a non-C&W setting and have been asked on occasion if I do country swing, but I've seen these moves taught as standard swing moves in ECS and Single Time so I'm unsure about this.

I asked one of the teachers at my studio whether C&W is the same as country swing and he said that it can be, he said that C&W also includes many other dances (i forgot what other ones he said, sorry)

Also, the Sweetheart is not only exclusive to C&W. It can also be used in hustle and salsa...i think it can be used in pretty much anything with a back step (or rock step) Im not sure about the window or the pretzel though.

Perhaps she was ignorant? Quite possible, if she's that rude. I can't imagine saying something like that to someone...unless it was the way you were doing it more so than the steps? I don't know.

Three years ago I went to the monthly swing dance held downtown here and was dancing with a lady as I normally do and was rudely told that "I don't want to do country swing" with patterns I learned in ECS.

So I guess that some patterns primarily done using the arms and hands are thought of by some people as country swing. I should mention that this dance I speak of is given by a group of primarily lindy hoppers, but is not limited to lindy hop.
